Netflix – Castlevania Review
Over the years, there have been countless shows and films within animation that have gone on to become some of the most successful forms of pop culture amongst viewers ever. One show that has recently gained massive traction these last few years is none other than the animated series known as Castlevania. Based on the Japanese video game series of the same name produced by Konami. Created and written by Warren Ellis and produced by Frederator Studios’s Kevin Kolde and Fred Seibert. Along with Shankar Animation’s Adi Shankar. The art style itself takes inspiration from past Japanese anime and artist Ayami Kojima’s artwork.
What I love about this series at best is its characters and the storylines that help bring them together. It’s easy to notice the sheer amount of love and passion that has come from the creating process of it all. Along with most importantly an amazing cast to top it all off. With the big four being of course: Richard Armitage (Trevor Belmont), James Callis (Alcured Tepes), Alejandra Reynoso (Sypha Belnades), and lastly Graham McTavish (Dracula Tepes).
The story as I’ve said before is flawless, and has managed to exceed my expectations countless of times episode by episode. Creator Warren Ellis does an outstanding job in ensuring that each character by themselves hold an importance in this incredible tale, and delivers on showcasing humanity at its best and worst. There are many beautiful themes such as Love, Betrayal, and War that play out throughout the course of the series, and covers subtle messages that help give away a new meaning to our existence in the world. While in the end delivering an incredible climax that is well worth the wait.
Speaking on the animation alone, I’d say it is in every shape and form perfect, and is above leagues from other fan-favorites being: Avatar The Last Airbender, Blue eye Samurai, Demon Slayer, and much more. It was simply jaw dropping just witnessing the art style that was used in crafting each episode. Along with the display of some of the most superb action scenes ever seen on screen! Every frame is well-detailed, and showcases a visually stunning experience that manages to give each character their spotlight. Making it a blast to watch as a whole. Nothing short of amazing to say the least.
Each season is paced out wonderfully, and gives us an insight into the making of this incredible world created by Warren Ellis. Heroes rise, empires fall, and in the end a common foe arises bringing forth a war that puts everyone at stake in a fight for freedom. Believe me when I say, this is a series anyone can enjoy from beginning to end. While also gaining new found love and appreciation for the genre in general.
If you’re someone who loves anime and are eager for something fresh and exciting, check out Castlevania now on Netflix and its spin-off Castlevania: Nocturne. It is without a doubt a blast from start to finish. Enjoy! Until next time peace!
