Talk To Me: Horror Movie Review
YouTube creators Danny and Michael Phillippou. Two names most in particularly known for their comedy sketches through the popular YouTube channel: RackaRacka are now stepping into the Hollywood spotlight, with their first feature film in Talk to Me. Starring YOU DON’T KNOW ME breakout star Sophie Wilde, Alexandra Jensen, Joe bird, Otis Dhanji, Miranda Otto, Zoe Terakes, and Chris Alosio.
Synopsis:
When a group of friends discovers how to conjure spirits by using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill — until one of them unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.
This newly well-paced thriller takes place in Adelaide South Australia. Many of the themes related to this film deals with at its heart, addiction and the coping of loss. Our protagonist Mia is seen front and center tackling these very elements throughout the story. Showcasing the damage of what losing someone you hold dear can do to a person once faced with a tragedy that at its core begins to tear a family apart. Mia is challenged dealing with this suffering and finds solace once granted with the ability to contact spirits thanks to a disfigured hand that allows her the chance of contacting her late mother. In a twisted reveal , we soon find out these spirits are more than what they seem. Causing more harm than good.
The loss of a loved one can break us. Shattering what we hold dear, & leading us into a world of despair that can later on destroy us. It is the feeling of emptiness that puts a hole through our hearts, and may put us on a journey of no return. Becoming addicted to anything we may find comfort in. Spiraling us into a world of unprecedented acts that can end up changing our lives for the worse. All of what’s mentioned here is what we see displayed in our lead Mia. Losing sight of who she is and becoming inadvertently a threat to herself, her loved ones and others. It is a powerful and outstanding performance done by actress Sophie Wilde. Showcasing to us all how deeply grief can affect a human being and the changes that come with it. Phenomenal cast, and excellent directing done by this amazing cast & crew.
The story as a whole wraps up perfectly, and instantly pulls you in for a thrilling ride that’ll leave you breathless by the end. It is amazing filmmaking at best, and sets the bar for MUST-SEE horror films to come of 2023 so far. While treading ground for a new generation.
Talk To Me serves as yet another winner in the library of horror released by production company A24. A powerhouse best known for independent filmmaking, & most notably some of the greatest modern day thrillers to arrive since Blumhouse. From The Witch, to Midsommar, Hereditary, Green Room, Monster, and It comes At Night, each title here are amongst just the very few massive hits to be produced by A24. All earning well-deserved praise by critics & audiences everywhere. Becoming cult classics in their own right.
Directors Danny and Michael Phillippou next film titled Street Fighter based on the popular video game series is currently in early development as of now, and will be produced by Legendary Entertainment. Another amazing production company that has well lived up to it’s name! From the looks of it, this maybe yet another record breaker for the masses, and is sure to catch the hearts of many fans worldwide.
