Warrior Nun Review: Your Next New Obsession!

Netflix has been on a winning streak these last few years given their immediate success in shows like The Witcher, Stranger Things, Into The Night, & now with it’s latest most promising entry yet, being the fantasy action series titled Warrior Nun! Written, directed, & produced by showrunner Simon Barry who’s mainly best known for his work with the Syfy Network on previous series such as: Continuum & most recently Van Helsing! Both of which have gained rave reviews amongst critics, & has already gone on becoming major hits with fans worldwide.
Personally, I was left pleasantly surprised with how quickly I fell in love with this show. Speaking on just the pilot alone, I was amazed at the time that was taken in introducing audiences to this new world adapted & inspired from the comics titled with the same name created by writer Ben Dunn. The cast consists of an amazingly talented well diverse group of women. Each of which who hold a significant part of the overall plot moving forward, & that I think are just outright INCREDIBLE! The relationships & interactions shown in just a timespan of 10 episodes feels at its core authentic & true at heart. Never once feeling scripted or out of place.
Up-and-comer Alba Baptista who’s our primary lead & protagonist of the show, plays a young woman by the name of Ava Silva who after losing her mother in a accident, & being kept sheltered for most of her life, is later resurrected by a divine artifact & recruited by an ancient secret organization known as the OCS. Skillfully trained Warrior Nuns dedicated & tasked to fighting the forces of evil. Putting an end to a centuries long war between heaven & hell that’ll determine the fate of all mankind. Beautifully gifted at her craft, wickedly funny, & a downright sweetheart, Baptista is one that I couldn’t keep my eyes off of every minute she was on screen, & I believe is very well on her way at taking the entertainment industry by storm. The amount of layers she brings to this character is beyond impressive, & acts as a primary example as to why she was picked to lead this amazing series in the first place. Talent like hers is rare, and needs to be shown. Definitely seeing a bright future ahead of her. A true star in the making!
Being a genuine horror fan myself, I can confidently say that I had a blast watching this from beginning to end, & I think anyone who’s been on the search for something a bit more daring, bold, & strangely unique, should definitely give this show a chance. It’s got something in it for everyone to enjoy, & acts as almost a nod & successor to other fan favorites in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, & Charmed. Filled with a story that showcases an evergrowing exciting mythology along with a fantastical new world that’s paced out perfectly. Making for an incredibly satisfying season that is sure to fill the cravings for all fantasy fandoms alike! Definitely not one to miss!
