Fifty-six years ago, author Frank Herbert bought us one of sci-fi’s best selling novels in the famous book titled DUNE. Now headlined by the legendary director Denis Villeneuve, audiences everywhere will finally have a chance at witnessing this incredibly re-imagined universe on the big screen. Becoming what might very well be the greatest live-action adaptation to arrive in decades. Setting the stage at the forefront, is none other than talented uprising star Timothee Chalamet. Best known for his exceptional performances in Oscar-nominated film Call Me By Your Name, & Netflix’s The King.

Acting as lead of a newly beloved story such as this one can be truthfully… daunting, but Chalamet thankfully steps up to the plate, proving the opposite. Undoubtedly crushing it in this spectacular role as the infamous heir Paul Atredies. Supporting him, is an amazing ensemble of a cast involving some of Hollywood’s most sought out names thus far with Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Issac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Zendaya & Sharon Brewster. Each of who’ve gone on in helping make this film the even more EPIC masterpiece that it’s already been stated to be by critics & book readers worldwide.

Looking back in time, we’ve seen outstanding work done from other past well-known franchises in Game Of Thrones, Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings, & Harry Potter. All geared as some pop culture’s most cherished titles to come throughout the last recent years, but now speaking on what’s been released so far in this modern era of filmmaking, no picture has come close as of late in rivaling both the sheer-scope & popularity of what Villeneuve has bought to life. An unquestionably jaw-dropping experience that is bound to leave one breathless towards the end. Giving a whole new insight into the deeper world of cinema.

Synopsis:

This new tale tells the story of a brilliant and gifted young man by the name of Paul Atreides. Born into a great destiny far beyond his understanding, & forced to travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe Arrakis, in ensuring the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s most precious resource in existence, only those who can conquer their own fear will survive.

This powerful story written by Frank Herbert showcases to us all, The Fremen: a race of people who are of lower class on the brink of genocide. Having their world’s resources salvaged, and destroyed by the hands of elites known as the powerful house Harkonnens. Viewed by many as nothing more but gods above all. It is a painted imagery of our own grim reality the struggles many of us experience now. Giving us an eye opener into the society we’re born in & the detrimental consequences of what happens when one is bestowed with too much power.

One of the best messages to take from Villeneuve’s innovative remake, is that it’s true there is good underneath us all, but it is also our job as individuals to ensure a future full of possibilities. Encouraging other generations to not only follow in suit, but to also evidently aspire as the light in a world that is overshadowed by so much sorrow & darkness.

Director Villenueve may not be the “GENIUS” filmmaker as some fans may have gone on to believe, but what can be stated is the pure passion & heart he brings into the fold creating this incredibly new unseen work of art. Those unfamiliar of his past projects, I recommend taking a look at some of his earlier films in: Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, & of course the sleeper hit that is Sicario. Each of these motion-pictures holds a touch of humanity that greatly relates to the conditions & battles we’re faced with everyday. Allowing even an average viewer the chance of truly understanding the fundamental message given throughout these stories. While lastly, adding as motivation to others in becoming successors in their own right. These are the stories I believe many of us crave for most, and will in the end help in evolving towards an brighter era filled of both hope & wonder.

At its core, Villeneuve’s vision does indeed act as a push for diversity, but also heavily elaborates on the hardships of those faced with backlash & hate for simply being different regarding the warriors that are the Fremen. Mirroring the lives of those of color, that are ridiculed with such animosity everyday.

DUNE is a remarkably well-crafted feature that is a MUST-SEE for this year! Filled with breathtaking cinematography, an unbelievably beautiful score done by Oscar-Winner Hans Zimmer. Along with a well-coherent flawless script written by Jon Spahits & Eric Roth. Hope you all enjoyed this review.
